This question is for all you lucky fellas that own both a usp40 and usp9. I really need to know if the usp40 mags work reliably if used in a usp9 pistol. I know the size of the magazine housings are exactly the same because the frames of the usp40 and usp9 are exactly the same. Probably the only difference is the size/width of the feed lips. This is where I am concerned about the reliablity aspect of it, or if the 40 mag feed lip would even hold the 9mm cartridge. Anyone with info please post, I really need your help. Thanks guys.

I have a USP 40 and 9mm rounds do load all the way down, not a clue if they actually feed properly (don't have the 9mm version). I'm assuming the way the mag loads that the 40 mags will feed properly in a USP 9mm. Maybe someone knows for sure?

This has been discussed a number of times on HKPro.com. I'll summarize what I can remember.

HK of course does not feel this should be done because it is not what the respective magazines were designed for and they cannot guarantee the same level of reliability.

Often shooters have stated that they tried or apply this and don't have issues or their issues are very infrequent and not critical (e.g. range shooting). I recall the opinion of many is fine for the range but those who carry typically do not apply this due to the possible reduction in reliability when the gun is needed.

I can't say for myself because I don't have a USP in .40S&W,.........yet.

Thanks for the info. The only thing I'm worried about is that since the 40 cartridge is wider than the 9mm cartridge that the feed lips on the 40 mag won't hold the 9mm round properly and it would just "pop" out by itself. But if you're able to load say 12 rounds of 9mm into the 40 mag without any rounds "popping" out under full spring tension, then it SHOULD function reliably seeing that both magazines are the exact same size because USP 40 & 9mm frames are the exact same size.

Very true, I would not try this IF I was able to carry, which we all know, is not going to be happening anytime soon, if ever. This would be just for range use of course.
