Hey guys,

Well, I finally took the leap and bought my first HK pistol.

A USP .45 in Stainless! 50 rounds down the tube, as new condition. Picked it up from a guy in Ontario for $900 shipped. Is that considered good for a 'used' USP?

Also, is there any mods that are recommended right off the bat? I'd like to get a set of Meprolight night sights, but are the factory sights pretty good? Any preferred factory loads in .45?

It's currently a Variant 1, and I'm a lefty... can I simply swap the lever to the other side and make it a Variant 2? Or do I need a new detent plate? I'd like to switch to a Variant 4 (decock only on RS of pistol), but unsure where to buy the plates. Wolverine?

Mags - I'm assuming I can import 10 rounders from the US, but not sure if they would require an export permit... any ideas?

I don't have it in my sweaty little palms yet, but I'm counting down the seconds.

Thanks for the help guys!

You got a great deal! Congrats! Importing mags from the States shouldn't be a problem as they cost under US$100.00.

Seems like a good deal for Stainless! You'll need parts to change the safety, Wolverine should be able to supply them. I put adjustable sights and match trigger on mine (and then bought a Tactical...). I've had no problem with any factory loads, including steel cased ammo. Handloads work good too., theres not much else to do but shoot it and enjoy!

I have a variant #4. To change it to a V# 4, you need one variant # 3/4 detent plate, and a Variant #4 lever. The lever is around $40, and the plate is around $13
any dealer should be able to order it thru FN-Sports. I installed it myself. The plate needed trimming as it required too much effort to decock when I changed it to a variant #4.
I am right handed, and I only need the decocker to decock. It is in the way of my thumbs in the V# 3 configuration, but in V#4 it feels much more comfortable. You should buy the variant # 3/4 plate first only, as you are left handed. IN that configuration, you can get a nice high grip with your thumbs on the left side of the pistol, as that area will not have any lever to get in your way.

10rd mags can be purchased with out any hasle via USA,

Ameriglo sights are better than Mepro, I have had both,... OR, you can get PSI adjustable fibre optic set.
You will want to polish the catch/latch piece, as it is very sharp on the edges and creates friction. You will notice scratches on it after some use or dryfire. The hammer strut needs to be well lubricated as does the recoil assembly and slide rails. Use a grease like "Slide-Glide lite", available from Brian Enos or Matt Burkett.

Thanks for all the tips guys. I was feeling a bit of buyers remorse, but that's evaporated now!

The only issue is the .45ACP.... I sold my .45 Norinco a few years back, because it was expensive to feed. I guess now I can justify getting into reloading. :)

Good info about the safety changes too... maybe I'll just wait until I shoot it a few times, and see if the right handed lever (left side) really bothers me that much...

If I DO want to change to a V#2, I shouldn't have to buy parts, right? Just be able to reverse the lever from the left side to the right?

Thanks again!

I picked mine up a couple of years ago and absolutely love it. It feeds everything with no jams and shoots better than I ever will. I would consider $900 a great deal.

NO, the left side and right side levers on any variant are different.

I said left and right side are different, HOWEVER, .....the V1 and V3 are the same lever. The only difference is the absence of the letters. The PLATE is the big difference.
