utas xtr12 question

My dad and I both have a xtr-12. It needs a good 100 rounds of something hot, think 4 dram or so, to break it in. Even then, the feeding problems and magazine issues are consistently bad with the stock parts.

If you pick up a ar10 or even a ar15 lower parts kit and install the bolt catch, mag release, and all the springs with some fitting that helps dramatically. The AR parts give you less magazine over-inserting issues which can lead to a failure to feed or double feed. On an open bolt you may still have to push the mag in and then pull down to feel it click into the locked position so it will not hang up the bolt.

We have been using hot loads in it, 3 1/4 dram Winchester AAs work the best. Challenger 3dram target will barely work even on the broken in gun, which is a shame since it is dramatically cheaper.
Good luck.
