I am an AR rookie, waiting on a Norc M4 from Frontier. I have been reading through this forum absorbing knowledge and searching, but we all know how successful the search usually is.

1) Who sells UTG quad rail handguards? Preferably a rifle length one. I have found lots of info on where they used to be, but nobody seems to have them currently.

2) I have figured out that I will need a new low profile gas block to run the long handguard. I have seen a bit mentioned on them, but no really decent listing of my choices and where to get them. What do you use for an aftermarket gas block, why did you choose it and where did you get it?

Thanks,
Mark

UTG is airsoft stuff.
If your thinking about running it over a low profile gas block.... you might want to think about using a different quad rail. HEAVY modification to the UTG is required to float over a gas block.....

Your in Airdrie? Go talk to Rick at Alberta tactical rifle.... he will help you out.
(But with names like NORC and UTG I imagine you have a budget and Rick's stuff costs a couple pennies more)

^ What he said,

But if you're on a budget, Troy products are priced really well. If your dead set on rifle length, you may have trouble finding a cheap free float version. If it comes down to price you might have to keep it carbine length.

I recently bought a Norc and removed the standard sight and handguard, and replaced it with an aftermarket gas block and free float rail. I purchase the YHM stuff from Fabsports. With shipping and taxes I think it cost about $200 for the upgrades. One thing to note is that I had to change my gas tube as the stock Norc gas tube didn't fit the aftermarket gas block.

Another option is to cut down the sight posts and turn your sight into a Low-pro gas block. The advantage being it's cheap :)

Thanks for the replies.

1) It's not really a budget so much as I don't want to step into AR's for a pile of money before I am sure they are for me. Hence, a Norc M4 and budget accessories.

2) I am still learning the AR ropes, if the UTG won't float over the gas block, then I will have to look elsewhere. The YHM handguards are pretty reasonable if they are a step up in performance and quality. Especially if they will float over the gas block.

3) nathanst, I will look at just cutting the stock sight down and keeping the gas block. Would the long YHM guard work over top of a cut down sight?

I will know more once I have the rifle in hand and have run some ammo downrange to see if the carbine length handguard works for me or not.

Yep the YHM handguard will work with the cut down sight. I personally went with the aftermarket gas block because I messed up the dremel job a bit. Even though it was covered by the handguard, I knew it was under there and it bugged me.

It's a Norinco so I would say it's time for the grinder :p
Seriously take the dremil and chop off the front post. Then clean it up and add some paint or bluing solution. Ask Stevo for the details.
