Hey guys, I've been looking at the UTG tri-rails and I've been searching this site and others for an in-depth review, and I can't seem to find a whole lot. I like the look of it on the M14 without the side rails attached. I was thinking of the rail with some sort of decent LER or red dot.

As far as I can see, it allows use of the irons with the rail installed? I've heard the small section that goes into the stripper clip guide dove tail is basically useless? So mounting a scope across the two sections is basically not doable? And finally, does it actually hold zero?

Generally something it that price range I would regard as too good to be true, but I'd like something fairly conclusive either way before ruling it out.

I have one on one of my Norc's. It didn't fit very well. I had to do some extensive shimming to get the scout scope to be useable but it did stay firmly in place- no such issues with a red dot I'm thinking. The stripper clip guide was pretty far from level with the rail.
You can use the iron sights easily.

I like mine for something forward mounted, didn't really require any fitting. And yeah the rear stripper clip pad sits I'd guess about 2mm lower than the hand guard. So if you did mount something across it eith find a way to shim or come up with something. That's probably the biggest thing that's pissed me off about it. For the money in hindsight I kinda wish I ponied up for the ultimak instead.

I wasn't a huge fan of mine... Probably ok for a red dot or LER scope, I guess, I was trying to bridge the receiver. Had to use some Burris Zee rings to be able to get it on paper without using most of the scope's internal adjustments. I ended up going with an ARMS 18 instead. You can have my UTG real cheap, if ya want it. Don't have the stripper clip guide dovetail anymore though.

Mine is fine too. If you happened to be in Kingston, you'd be more than welcome to drop by and check it out or meet at the range to give it a live fire test.

Thanks for the invite! Would be quite the drive lol. Thanks for the reviews guys, I'm still on the fence, I'm sort of leaning towards something like the ARMS 18 and a full size scope, as I already have one battle rifle with a red dot lol.

Ha! Thats because i bought your stripper clip guide:). But alas, i've sold it off as well. The whole system kinda blows. You could take a look at the Troy Battle Rail, works great, was a little pricey for me, but the same style mounting system with total quality.

Hmmm, yes. I guess I could have looked more closely at your info.

If you are specifically looking to mount a standard scope, then I wouldn't go with the tri-rail. I use mine for a red dot and EOTech and like it a lot for that, although the Springfield scout mount/handguard I have gives a much cleaner look. I have an Vortex offset QD mount coming or my XCR and will be interested to see if it is enough to mount a standard ER scope on my M14 if I flip the mount around and attach it as far back as possible on the rail. I'll try to remember to post up a pic and report on whether that setup works (would be sweet if it did!).
