Is there any particular advantage to buying snap-caps for dry firing practice in revolvers as opposed to using spent brass w/spent primers? I understand that autos would be different in terms of ejection, etc.
Here's why I use them. Spent brass after a few sessions doesn't cushion the firing pin unless you replace the dented primer with a piece of rubber or something similar.
Unlike spent brass, snap caps look nothing like live ammo. If you make a mistake and what you think is a piece of spent brass is in fact a live round you risk a negligent discharge. At the very least they are hard on the ears.
I also like the snap caps to practice with my speedloaders. You can't do that with spent brass.
