Whats everyones views on these to super shotguns. Which one holds the cake. Also, we can obtain a KSG in Canada, what about the UTS???

From what i understand you cannot have a light on a shotgun, the UTS has a built in light and laser??? Anyhow which ones better, UTS loads from the top and is easy to access in a jam up ( from the top ), KSG is a totally different style, whats everyone think. Any experience with actual performance?

I don't have any experience with either shotgun, but I have seen people who have broken their KSG rails by using a vertical fore-grip.

Both shotguns are available in Canada and both are non-restricted. There is no issue at all with having a light/laser on a shotgun, unless it's against provincial hunting regs.

I owned both, then returned the UTS.. KSG is clearly the winner here.. It's much more solid, and easier to operate then UTS..
Also, I don't know how new models are, but the UTS I had had some feeding issues.

Look through my threads, there are few about those shotguns..

I've only heard of ONE ksg breaking at the rail. Were there more?

There was a KSG with a broken rail, but that was only due to wrong type of grip installed..
The rail on KSG is low profile, so you have to watch, some grips won't sit properly, resulting in damage to the rail..

Other then that I don't think there were any other "problems" reported... It's a great gun.

Neat, but...

IMO it'll be a few years before these designs are "debugged", and a few more years after that before someone incorporates all the lessons learned and really does a bullpup shotgun design right.

I'm not sure if twin mag tubes is the way to go, the tradeoffs in hugely increased bulk, awkward loading and probably decreased reliability aren't worth it.

Have you owned a Neostead as well?

Might be sooner than you think with technology advancements as well as brand competition. Look at the AR market, everyone great gun dealer is getting their feet wet now, cus there is a market for them. These shotguns, givin the huge demand and people paying almost doube, will prompt another big dealer to get a piece if the pie. I love that its something different. So KSG is the way to go???

would love to know, checked dmtri's review and read other forms, would love to know what has been going on recently? Dmitri, you around??????

I'm around, but i havnt seen the 2nd gen. yet... I'm also patiently waiting for someone to post a review on those.....

OK, I'll start with mine..

About 4 weeks ago, with much anticipation I received my GEN 2 UTS-15. I felt like a kid at Christmas as I opened the box and got my first look at this beast. Some people would call it butt ugly, but I like it's outrageous apearance!

Upon inspection, I noticed a couple of cosmetic flaws in the receiver and the rubber but pad was not very well glued on. I was a bit dissapointed with that, but I was more interested in how well this thing worked. So a quick cleaning and off to the range I went.

I loaded up with Winchester AA #7.5's , turned on the cool-ass laser unit and started to bang off some rounds.

With in the first few shots, the laser/light unit burned out and I couldn't get it working again. Not too good. The fist box of 25 fired off pretty well without any problems, but on the next mag, I started having major problems with the bolt getting stuck, FTF, FTE, etc so I took it to the bench to have a close look at things.
I found the problem.
The polymer receiver that houses the bolt had actually broken. Now I was pretty dissapointed over all and the next day I contacted T.I. explaining the situation.

NOW LET ME SAY THAT TACTICAL IMPORTS WAS EXCELLENT IN ASURING ME THAT THEY WOULD TAKE CARE OF EVERYTHING AND THEY DID JUST THAT.

I boxed it up and sent it off to the gunsmith and I got it back this past Friday.

This time when I openned the box, it was a different story. Everything that was wrong, was made right. I got a whole new bolt receiver assembly and new lower receiver. I beleive that the consensus was that the polymer was defective as the color was a bit off.

The laser/light unit is toast though and am awaiting a replacement. Thats ok....

off to the range again. I ran 150 rnds of the same ammo. The gun cycled much better than the first time and nothing broke, so all is good with that, but I'm still experiencing a lot of FTF's . It got better towards the end of my session and I hope that the gun will work it's self in. If not, I'm afraid its going to have to go back again. I'll do another trip to the range this week sometime and I'll let you all know how it goes.

So thats my experience. Anyone else?

In all fairness, this is a brand new design and from everything I have researched, UTAS is serious about working out any bugs with user feed back. Time will tell if this gun will be a success or not.

I've had my gen 2 uts for a few months now.
The new followers are a big improvement, quicker reloading, and I prefer the 14 rounds non stop, without trying to count the rounds to know when to flip the selector switch like with the ksg.
My first gen 2 unit was a dud, the barrel was misaligned in the reciever which caused tough feeding with short brass shells like your typical cheap trap load. Then one of the barrel attachment welds broke. Another shotgun from the same order had a similar failure on the barrel.
The replacement has been perfect in every regard though, I've put roughly 1000 rounds of slug, buckshot, and trap loads through it without issue.
Accuracy is great, with a rifled choke it one holes fiocchi low recoil slugs at 100 yards.
Definite quality control issues, but the customer service from uts is outstanding.

Thanks ntm,

Nice reveiw. I will have a closer look at the barrel on my gun. A missalignment could explain alot. I hope to have mine working as well as yours.

cheers..

It sounds as if it was seriously rushed to market, on top of the usual amount of new design teething troubles.
