It really gets my goat.

A year ago Ed and I discussed building up a precision rig. A simple exercise for some, when dealing with Ed it goes a little further. Every time I specified a component I was asked why. Every time I asked his opinion he wouldn't give it.

This may seem strange to some but the point here was Ed doesn't need my business. He has a long line of people waiting to have him build a rig and if he is going to put in the effort then he expected me to practice 'due diligence' as well.

Fact of the matter was, although I could spec a long list pf top shelf components I was unable to justify my choices...in other words I didn't know sh*t and was being a poser.

With this realization I knuckled down and did some serious research. A month or so later I knew what I wanted my new rig to do and had the knowledge needed to discuss it with Ed. Once I had made this effort Ed was happy to discuss all manner of variables and to suggest directions I hadn't thought of but now knew enough to appreciate.

It took 7 1/2 months to build my rifle. As anyone who has done this knows, tying up thousands of dollars in something as ethereal as a rifle build is not easy but through yoga and tantric breathing exercises i was able to do it.

When I finally received my rifle I couldn't have been happier. Fit and finish where truly excellent and the lines just FLOOOOOOOOOWED. Everything seemed great.

I say seemed because now that I have shot it I have discovered a MAJOR inconsistency.

When I developed a criteria for this rifle, the #1 spec was that it be able to shoot 1/4 MOA with handloads. I'm not talking benched in a rest or sandbagged to the gills, I'm talking off the bipod with a small sandsock under the butt.

This is a 5 rd. group shot at 100m. These are rounds number 111 - 115. The group is 9/16 outside so .19875" center to center.

The problem is that I was using FACTORY ammo. I specified this sort of performance from handloads. I mean really, how hard is it to get it right?

The rifle in question

Now I'm not saying that Ed's not a stand up guy....he has offered to refund my money and keep the gun but really, that's not the point.

I'm thinking of suing him in court for damages.....what would you guys do?

I can see why you're upset. That much time and money and the gun shoots low and to the right.:(

He probably won't honour the buy-back offer anyway, so I think you're stuck with it.

Better luck next time!

(good post, thanks for the laugh!)

I wouldn't know Ed from a hole in the ground, but the fact is your rifle shoots and he still offered to give your money back. Says a great deal about Ed.

That looks like a 1/4 moa group to me??
Hand load or not the rifle shoots.
It sounds to me as though your handloads are at issue here and you need to spend more time developing a good load.

Temporarily install a two once trigger, set it up on sandbags and get back to us....It looks like the rifle can shoot even better than the posted group.

Again.....That Ed offered to give your money back is impressive and (considering how well the rifle is finished and how well it shoots with factory loads) his offer is far more than fair.
Your chance of winning a law suite is zero.

fwwoooooooommm!

When I get around to developing a load it will do better for sure.

Although my post was tongue in cheek that is exactly the type of guy he is. Honor and character in abundance.

...am I feeding a troll?

In a benign way yes, but only because it's a joke....Ed is a very good friend.

Man some people take things to literally....Great looking rifle

Well, I didn't use emoticons so really, it's my fault.

I think it's nice that the people who thought it was serious took the time to stand up to an injustice.....

I'd sue the bugger.. and demand he file down the crown or mangle the optics so you can get those 1/4 MOA groups... dammit 1/5 just will not do...

Nice rig and great shooting..

I feel your pain but being an altruistic stand up guy myself, I'll help you out - I will take that piece of junk off your hands and ship you your choice of several Lee Enfield rebuilds that I have. You can be the proud owner of nicely-refinished Minute of Moose accuracy in a battle proven package and I'll figure out someway of using that ugly green thing that you are sending to me. Sorry but on this deal I have to insist you pay for shipping.

Enjoy the rifle - ya lucky SOB !

Bob.

...do I feel stupid or what?

Nice rifle and never mind me. I actually believed - when someone told me - that the word " Gullible " was removed from the dictionary.

Buy some well used dies from a gun show, and some old gross smelling surplus powder, I'm sure you can get handloads that'll group a bit bigger. Maybe if you just slam the handle down during seating, you'll get a nasty runout, that might be just the ticket.

If all that doesn't work, a little nick in the base of the bullet, groups will get really nice and big.
