Let me start by saying that I'm not 100% sure if this is a black or a red rifle, but since the direction I'm going with this is definitely black... here it goes.

Have one of those common Valmet M78s in .308 stamped. No one really had a design to share so I built a design in AutoDesk Inventor and had it 3d printed. Lets me attach any standard AK stock to a valmet, but I have it set up with an ACE folding adapter and a standard M4 buffer tube - any of stocks that fit would work. Should the 3d printed part ever break (which it doesn't seem to be doing) I'll have a stainless part CNC'd from the same design.

I'm stuck looking for a gas block for a heavy profile barrel, once I find one, I could either have another shorter barrel with AK-like sight and muzzle brake manufactured in .308 or attempt a 7.62x39 conversion - already have the bolt carrier and bolt, will only need to make a (probably 3d printed again) mag well insert to accept regular 7.62x39 magazines.

Anyhow, picture time, for your visual enjoyment and entertainment :) :

Looks wicked dude!!!!!!!

I personally would love to see one made to fit AK buttstocks to it. I actually have my valmet M78 7.62x39 being worked on right now and would love an adapter for AK stocks!!!!!!!!!!

This ACE adapter is marketed to go instead of (straight) AK stocks, so any straight AK stock should fit. If you have an AK stock in mind, I can draft you a design that you can 3d print locally, just need the dimensions of the stock (might even fit with the design I have already). If the 3d print prototype works you can then CNC it.

You better be taking lots of pics!

Don't worry, pics have been taken before and once completed!!

That sounds good man, I'll see what I can do!!!

Would you be able to Draft up something that accepts Ak stocks with the tang on them??

I _can_ draft up an adapter even for that tanged stock as is... but it will look like s... it will look bad, k? ;) Too long and you'd be _very_ limited in material choices - the adapter will have to envelop the tang and then be strong enough. If someone wants to donate an AK stock to this or be willing to do a lot of measurements?

There are other, possibly easier ways I think...

You may find that if you take the buttplate off, there is a bolt that attaches the stock to the adapter. (Not the case for wooden ones) One of the fiberglass stocks I've seen was done that way.

If that's the actual stock you want, can you pm me the link to the store and I'll see if I can get some hands on it when I'm in the US (or get someone to examine it for me).

Also see if you can find a Yugo M70 stock - they are definitely done with a bolt (no tang). And I have an adapter I can modify for those if the holes don't quite line up with a stamped receiver (I believe they don't - there are two horizontally?). If you need one for a cast one, I'm in the process of making one now.

Otherwise, mod time - you can cut the tang off the stock to get a flat surface, then drill lengthwise (you probably know, but for my own sanity, I'll say that you should actually drill toward the buttplate, and use a drill press to get proper alignment). One hole or two is up to you. With one hole you may not need an adapter. But with two you'll get a firmer fit with no chance of twist, but a thin adapter will be needed (5mm or so) and I can draft one up.

I used to think that for a stamped receiver it would be possible to remove the attachment backplate from within the receiver... like people do for AKs, but it seems the stamped valmet receiver material is thicker and you'd have to modify both the ak attachment backplate and then the stock to fit, so not worth it. (And then I totally lost interest in the stamped receivers ;) )

Most of this applies to a machined receiver too, but there's no way to do any of this without an adapter of course.

Yeah all I have are stamped receivers.

Well that buttstock is a Tapco one so really any good firearm store in the states should have it if not I could try and order the stock but i highly doubt that it will be shipped up North.

I think your idea is the best way. Chop the tang off and drill holes for bolts thru the stock and attach it to the stock adapter.
Thinking this could work out good.
