The Hunter mags are very slightly thinner. This means a 5 round Hunter will fit in an M78 receiver, but a 20 round M78 mag will not fit the Hunter.

The hunter mag tends to wobble around a bit, but feeds fine.

Just a quick sidenote guys, Galil mags will fit the M78. they are a bit tight but can be relieved for easier use.

Are you refering to the .223 or 308?

The 223 Galil mags do fit, but they do not feed properly.
They tend to hammer the round into the feed ramp. If it doesnt FTF (failure to feed), it will at the minimum force the bullet in to the case. Valmet.org had a warning about this on their site.

The 308 Galil mags fit a bit tight but do lock in place just fine. Since they have the M14 follower it will hold the bolt open after the last shot, if you want to not have it hold open swap in a G3 follower. The M78 non Hunter mags were thinned G3 steel mags with the locking tabs spot welded on...
