I haven't been shooting in years and my nephew wants to go out so I thought that if he really enjoys it, one more licensed person in Canada would be a good thing. My Valtro has been sitting for at least a dozen years and I don't think I put 200 rounds through it because I got it close to the end of my shooting days. I really like it but was thinking of selling it or trading it for a 9mm because it would be cheaper to shoot and easier to find ammo for. I have been looking around and all that I can think is "Crazy". Now I am not sure if it is crazy what people are asking for these things or what people are paying for these things. I guess what my question is "What's the deal with this thing?"

Are you looking at the Canadian or US market? There is a large difference. In Canada, they have come down from where they were a few years ago - like every other higher end pistol frankly. If you bought yours new, you should still do well on the sale.

I'm not sure i know the full deal but they are a high quality pistol, with nicely smoothed edges - not common on 1911s these days. Some say the Canadian versions are less sought after than the US versions because they hit the market before they were tuned by Jardin himself, but many don't think this mattered at all.

What I have seen for prices has been in the USA market. I can't find anything on these anywhere in the Canadian market. I have searched and I am assuming that there are so few that they rarely come up for sale. In the USA I have seen 6K for something with thousands of rounds through it to over 10k for nice and clean. I don't remember what I paid for mine but it wasn't crazy by any means. I bought it new and I think it was 14-1500 and it was less than a Gold Cup was. Now I do love the thing and out of everything that I have ever owned it has been by far my favourite. That is why when I had to liquidate everything, it was the one that was never offered up for sale. I haven't fired a lot of different 1911s so I don't know just how good it is compared to others, maybe I can't replace it with anything close to it for less. I just thought I would like one in 9mm because it is cheaper to shoot, and if I start reloading again, I would like to try and keep everything to 1 calibre. I have a Beretta in 40 s+w that I would probably trade for a 9mm too. I don't want to give it away if it is worth a lot and if it is worth way more in the USA I would probably give it to my daughter then who lives there. She does have her PAL here and she was going to get her CC there. I don't think it is something she would want to carry but maybe would want to shoot or sell it for more than I could get here.
Thx for the feedback.

I've seen a couple come through EE over the last while and i'm pretty sure they were listed at around 2K and under. To maximize value, you'd have to sell in the US.
