Valtro PM5 Tactical shotgun 14"

Maybe it would be better in the shotgun topic but what the heck:

Fun toy. The barrel is ported to work as a compensator, when shooting 3' slugs, it makes a nice 6 inches upwards flash. It felt very compact, the grip and stock is good. Sometimes, i think i sould have bought this instead of my Defender because after all the gadgets i added, the total price is almost the same as the price for a PM5. Personnally i loved it!

Mags take some practice to be able to use quickly.

I didn't like the porting. I have large hands and when shooting in the winter the blast burnt a hole in my glove.

Hey just wondering if anyone here has tried the Valtro PM5 Tactical shotgun,

I have one the Frickin' magz are $85.oo each, and I bought 8 spares.

the magz fir perfect in the german "rain" 4 AK47 mag pouchs.

the stock was made for the Jolly green giant and has no recoil pad on it, so plan on getting at least two inchs cur off and a recoil pad installed.

i love mine. it does take some practice tho both in changing mags and in cycling - you have to be firm both forward & back! unlike the 870 if you squeeze the trigger before the bolt is in battery the hammer will fall and push the bolt the rest of the way (no ignition at least every time i've done it inadvertently ) so you have a live round -hammer down situation which means you then have to eject & relaod- which ruins an IPSC run...
the peep sights are excellent.

If I'm out of line here, you'll forgive me but if your 870 does as you state above, it's broken.

An 870 will not drop the hammer (or should not) untill the action bar lock clicks in. By then, the bolt is completely closed. In fact the bolt closes completely long before the action bar locks up. Untill then, the trigger is 'mush'.

Regards.

Take the $$ you would spend on the Valtro, add 25% and buy a Fabarm. In an automotive analogy the Valtro is the Fiat of Italian tactical shotties while the Fabarm is a Ferrari. Had 'em both, once the Fabarm arrived I never wanted to use the Valtro again. Of course this is IMHO and YMMV :)

My Valtro is a lot of fun, good way to practice AK reloads with that rocker motion. With a bit of smithing, most 870 accessories fit on it. My Surefire dedicated fore end for the 870 fits my Valtro.

Have not decided if I'll keep it or not....... :?

shot my buddies valtro. good gun smooth operator...but i like my 870 just because it pumps "louder" haha. but the barrel porting on the valtro is something to get used to and the mag changes do take practice.

I did not like mine, traded it for a new 870P and a case of trap ammo. Careful when racking the top round off of a fresh mag, if you are not aggresive enough, it'll stovepipe the shot and lock up the action, become a PIA to clear if you are on a 3 gun course, or, even worse, the 2-way range.

I see this thread has been revived so I will mention that I stand by my initial recommendation to spend the extra $$$ and get a Fabarm, but I see that for 2006 the TSE Fabarm pricing has come way down so now you can own the Fabarm for the price of a Valtro.:D
