Perhaps the second time will be the charm ?
Some people were posting prices from 10-20 years ago but I believe they have changed as a number of those rifles, I am sure, were turned into sporters of some sort or another. Prices from that time just don't work for the market today as my good friend has told me during the numerous occasions he has sold his milsurps.
I have seen some pretty beat up 1908s, yours is certainly on the top end, in my opinion. It looks like it was made yesterday.
Sure there are some small dents on the stock but you have to remember that some of those came from the packing crate she was put in and probably from a former collector when she was imported into Canada.
Value ? Well Ellwood Epps has a D+T example with mis-matched bolt for $370 so I imagine yours would be somewhere between $500-800 ?
Your tough point will be that a number of collectors, who happened to have a picking during those importing times, have the same type of minty, matching, examples in their closets already. However, you never know what will happen, we'll need some more opinion of today's market value for a 1908 in your condition before settling on a price.
lol...
Well, when you sell your 1908, I now know it is not mint and unissued anymore so I'll just offer what people were paying for the "regular" 1908s 20 years ago, not adjusted for inflation, and see how it goes.
The OP is asking a good question on value, I offered what I felt would have been correct given the state of his rifle and based on what I have seen at my gunshop, the EE, and a few gunshows. I admit, I may be wrong but who is perfect with value in today's market for a particular milsurp anyway ?
Instead of laughing at my posts, why not offer him a good price range backed up with some current evidence ? That way we are all happy in the end.
I too agree with Bearhunter's price range as it more than likely explains why my 1908 didn't sell a month ago.
