A few years back I bought a 42B from a fellow who couldn't find the mag although he knew it was "somewhere". The deal was if and when it turned up it was mine. In the mean time I bought a replacement from Paul Switzer. It had a little rust in a couple spots but it worked OK. Paid a hundred bucks which was probably below the going value. Shortly after I sold the rifle mag included of course. Well I had a phone call a couple weeks ago and the missing mag has turned up. It is mine although I do not have it yet. Rifle was in very good condition so I'm assuming mag will be as well. It will be for sale. I know they are hard to find. What is a fair price for both buyer and seller?

They are hard to find but not impossible. I would think north of $175. There is one for sale on the EE but it's an incredible $350 which is almost half the price of a gun. My guess is $200 but even that seems crazy (unless you happen to need one lol).

Boys that's the question isn't it? Fair
I guess it really has to do with "supply and demand" If someone wants it bad enough...they'll pay lots!
Some will ask $350 and maybe will get it.
You could find one for around $150 if you really look hard and send out a lot of PM's
But I agree with saskminer.
$200 would be fair for both parties. And that's crazy for a $45-$50 mag!!! JMHO.

Fair? When it was missing, you got a replacement for $100. You may have recouped more than that when you sold the rifle later, but things generally have gone up. Certainly you would not be fair to yourself if you got less than $100 for the original magazine. You will not be unfair to a buyer now if you apply the general increase in such things to the original $100 purchase price. If it isn't worth it to a prospective buyer, they won't be an actual buyer.

I'd really like to have one of those rifles but unless it was gift I wouldn't get one without the magazine.

Probably among the rarest of military surplus magazines to find.
I saw one sell at auction for about $350 when all fees and taxes where added in.

Hard to believe that back in the 80's the whole rifle only sold for $69 and they were not popular at all.

I bought mine, spotless, scratchless, and unissued 40 years ago for $85 Canadian. Included tool kit and spares. The dealer I bought it from had a truckload.

Don't ask what I paid for an "unsellable" Ducati 750 demonstrator from the factory dealer the following year......
