.....................It's a wartime Mauser Refurbished in Austria by the Nazi's by a Company called Steyr. I think I will wait for a local gun show and try to get what I can, then I can throw in my ammo for a package deal.I 'll try to get $900 for everything.Set your listing by how fast you want the money. We're in a market that has gone right off the deep end, so why not cash in?
List at $900 OBO and make it clear you're willing to deal. If you get it, great. If not, bump it until you get an offer you can live with.
Looks like a Czech refurb to me (what I can see on my phone anyway) and they're hard to judge. But folks are dropping $1000 on BBQ painted Russian captures so who knows.
Good luck!
Retail prices Cam. Guess I failed to make the point I was trying for - Gandalfe's bnz is with exactly what someone is willing to pay him for it.
Prices are climbing and can be difficult to pin down. The AG42 I bought from you for $350 a few years ago went last week for a $700 trade. A $400 M39 from Artyman (after it was bumped at least three times) is now a $1000 rifle. Remember the collective freak out when the first $2000 Garand posted? Going price now.
It's not a RC and is completely Nazi made with love and devotion from the SS and their slave labor, in the good old Nazi Steyr Factory.
Thank you for this info.I sent pics about 6 or 7 years ago and someone Mauser educated, like yourself, told me it was an SS contract from Austria, because of it's Markings. It will never be worth much to collectors, but she shoots very well, so it will sell as a shooter, and 750 sounds good enough, if someone will part with their cash for just a shooter.I have several hundred rounds, that I may shoot before I sell, because Ammo is hard to ship. It's true that Steyr manufactured SS contract rifles, but until you provide a clear close up of the receiver, we won't be able to tell you which branch it was actually issued to (because they also sent rifles to the Heer). Another thing to note is that Steyr had multiple manufacturing plants, so if you show us more, we should be able to tell you if it was manufactured in Austria or Poland.
Based on what's visible - the rifle appears to have been heavily varnished. That is going to detract from its collectibility given that most guys don't like that kind of thing. Plus, with the early style H band on it, I'd be willing to wager that it is in fact some kind of post war refurb. Perhaps it wasn't totally scrubbed like most, but those barrel bands certainly aren't correct for 1944 Steyr production.
As far as selling it goes, my best guess would be a $750 valuation (+/-). But, be sure to post some supplementary photos, because if the receiver is in fact SS issue, it will increase the value of the rifle (to some).

I remember buying that AG42 for $225 and the bayonet for $25. I think that $350 I sold it to you included the bayonet. $700 now - I wish my RRSP was doing so well. I Don't think we will see $1000 RCs for awhile yet though.

I just double checked and it is a BNZ4 so it is a Polish gun.I was wrong all these years and have to price it low now.It looks so nice for Eastern European made.Looks to be a nice condition refurb. RC are like $700 these days, I'd personally try around $800 shipped myself. The more pics and markings the better. You can always drop down too. is it a large font BNZ44 or a bnz4? The bnz44 receivers were originally destined for the SS contracts but time ran out and they got used for regular production. The bnz4 receivers originated in Poland at Radom. Lots of guys like steyr so should be an easy sale of imagine.
