A buddy just showed me a 1941 Oberndorf K98 he picked up from a collector buddy.

The wood and metal are near new, bluing virtually pristine, laden with cosmoline and Nazi Waffenamts intact.

I can't believe that a 1941 K98 can be in such near new condition.

What would it be worth if it is the real thing?

Anywhere from $50-$2000. Depends on LOTS of factors, pictures are really needed. Is it matching? sportered? refinished? etc... etc...

All matching, not sporterized at all. You know, I think it may be one of the Portuguese ones. That occurred to me when I saw it.
I didn't take pics, but I just looked at some photos of the Portuguese contract Mausers and yes, it has the same crest on it.

A lot if authentic ... ;)

If you want to compare markings and learn a lot more about that specific Oberndorf, check the 182 pic photo montage of an "all correct" example in the Germany - Milsurp Knowledge Library (click here) http://www.milsurps.com/content.php?r=123-germany

"...can't believe that..." Believe it. Had a bunch in the shop I worked in long ago(early 80's) that were literally in mint condition with the matching bayonet. I was told they had been found in some warehouse in Portugal/Europe. Spent hours cleaning the cosmoline out of 'em. Sold for $215, at the time. Been kicking myself ever since for not buying one.
Haven't a clue what they're worth now though.

I bought one years ago from Shooters Supply at Dufferin & Lawrence long before the police shut John Burns down. They were brand spanking new complete with a matching numbered bayo. A buddy admired it big time, and I sold it. I think at that time I got $300. for it. Talk about kicking ones own butt!!!!!
