A friend of mine has a Garand that he picked up while in the military. It's gov't issue. He had a new stock and barrel (gov't) installed, the rifle worked over by a military gunsmith, and had the rifle re-Parkerized. He also has all the genuine accessories - cleaning kit, rod, etc. He's looking at selling it, but has no idea as to what it's worth. I haven't played around with milsurp in many moons. I told him I figure somewhere between $2-3k???

Easily that. Italian T2s in .308, which are pretty non-collectible and all not great shapoe, are being sold for $2400. A pristine shooting iron, regardless of collectibility, should command at least that.
2 to 3k you are correct. Based on your description of your friend's rifle move to the high side.
There are still nice Italians in 30-06 around, built by people who know what they are doing (purple here on gunnutz for ex). 2300-2600
