Would anyone have an idea of the value of a custom rifle made long ago (I don't know when axactly.) by Klaus Hiptmayer? I don't have pictures so don't ask! The rifle is built using a high end mauser action. Caliber is 270. The barrel is octogonal and it is a takedown barrel. Wood is Italian (I am told...)The gun is unfired and in perfect condition.

That' pretty much all I know! I was told Klaus Hiptmayer built this rifle completely and only made a few... I know he has a very good reputation for stockmaking and gunsmithing but I did not know he actually made rifles...

Thanks!

Come on guys! Just a ballpark figure! Please! My father needs to know since he has been offered one as payment and the person tells him the rifle is worth 50 000$... I have my doubts! I only know Purdey's with that price tag!

Unless the rifle is festooned with gold inlay and engraving that's at least 10 times what the rifle is worth.

There is one on this site to give you a reference point.

It's tough to put a price on anything without seeing it or knowing which action, barrel, quality of the wood, checkering, etc. the rifle has but I'd doubt it would be worth more than $5,000 unless there was something very special about it and I'm probably being generous in that estimate.

I do know Klaus and Heidi did nice work, but I'm also thinking $5k would be a whole lot closer than $50k. I turned down a superb Ottmar for $6k, and that's a lot bigger name than Hiptmayers.

Somebody is pulling your old Dads leg to the tune of $45,000 or so.
