I have a buddy looking to sell me his Marlin 7000, which is essentially a heavy-barreled 795 in a synthetic stock. I've taken it apart and used it already so I know it's in perfect working order. Other than a few nicks and a scratch on the barrel that are easily repaired with a bit of bluing, it is in great shape. It has some good steel scope rings mounting a pretty crappy 3-9x scope.

What would be a reasonable offer to make him? Hard to find prices on the net since no one seems to want to sell them. :)

Some US prices are in the $150 - $175 range.

Ask him "Why do want such a heavy .22?" "I'll buy it from you for $100 and you can go out and buy yourself a much lighter one. I'm doing this because I'm your friend. You'll thank me later"
;)

I wish I could find a 7000 for the price you quoted in the US. The ones I see usually run $225 down here at the fun shows. No one seems to budge on the price either.

I understand they stopped production of the #7000[heavy barrel] because it didn't offer any significant increase in accuracy over the #60 or #795 which had the lighter barrels.
They make fine ''walking guns''

They do offer accuracy advantages with a heavy barrel if fired in a moderate to fast pace. The heavy barrel heats up much slower.

I had it lined up against my Model 60 last weekend and I can believe it. It could keep up with my peep-sight Model 60, but even with the scope it couldn't beat it.

If it had a better scope and if I could test out some more brands of ammunition I expect I could get it nicely tightened up.

I would like it for the gopher patch; not the near stuff but to reach out with. Put it in a Boyd's Thumbhole with a decent bipod and a good scope.

I like all Marlin Semi's!

My friend owns a 7000 with a Nikon scope on it. Fantastic fun. I don't shoot well enough to know if it's better than a 60...it certainly isn't worse.

Knowing how fast a 60 moves out of the EE when priced reasonably [having missed them!!!], this one should move pretty quickly too. You could safely ask for more than 200, it should still move quickly.
