Father-in-law's co worker is selling (supposedly) a Remington pump rifle in 300 Savage in "hunted with" condition and no scope or mag. I doubt it is drilled and tapped.

I was thinking of offering $150-200. Getting a replacement mag means making a .308 mag work, and I could get a much more desirable caliber with scope for 350-400 fairly easily. Does that sound about right?

$200 would be a pretty good deal, depending on the definition of "hunted with condition". Should be a pretty sweet little rifle. I worked with a guy that had one. Did the trick on caribou and moose.

I recently "slummed it" with a Savage 99 (really was NEVER a fan of the gun, sorry to all the 99 fans but JMHO ) just so I could get a rifle chambered in 300 savage. I love the round. It is quite the handy gun. I wouldn't be worried about any game up to and including Moose and Black Bears. You sort of want to be a re-loader to really get the most out of it, but factory fodder usually gives you more than enough gun.

Sacrilege !! Lol

Depending on condition $200 is a decent deal. Find a 300 magazine, it will work better. The proper mag will also up the value a bit.

I don't think the 300 mags are easy to come by. It would up the value for sure, but if I have to spend $75 on one, hardly saving me any money.

Around here, .300 Savage ammo is quite pricy, so it's not very desirable from that perspective.

Magazines can be found especially if you aren't looking for a mint condition magazine. The 760 was introduced in 1952 and I think they started drilling and tapping them in 1954. My dad has one in .35 Remington that he bought in '55 and it is factory drilled. I have read that the .308 mags will work fine with the .300 Savage but have no personal experience with them. $200 is a good deal for the 760 in question.
