Hey folks:

A friend of mine has a Sauer Western Six Shooter single action revolver chambered in .22LR and I'm wondering what you guys think the value of the firearm is.

I don't have pictures but my sense is that the gun is used, but lightly.

He wants $300 for it including a metal two gun combo case, a holster and some trigger locks and ammo.

What do you think?

Thanks!
PS - was there ever a .22 magnum cylinder made for this?

I can't say for sure but it seems high to me when you consider that you're talking about $100 or more in additional stuff to go with the $300. Especially when for that money you can look around and work out a deal on a blued Single Six new for about the same outlay.

I should clarify - the $300 includes the additional stuff and the firearm.

It IS high.

To the OP: Do you have any pictures of this revolver? I'd be especially interested in seeing how pronounced is the cylinder ring. I owned the same gun, same caliber, and I was totally dissatisfied with it. I found it to be poorly made and roughly finished. .22 caliber firearms aren't subjected to much stress compared alongside a .44 Magnum, yet these Sauers are prone to jamming and other wear-related issues. They remind me of the crap that comes out of Brazil. For all I know, they could be made in Brazil FOR Sauer.

I wouldn't pay $100 for a used one, unless it appeared in virtually new condition. Even then, I wouldn't expect it to last long.

Interesting. Mine has a deep cylinder ring, so I assume it's been shot a lot. Works like a top except for the front sight being loose. It's 30+ years old AFAIK. Sauer made larger caliber SAA clones as well including a 44 mag.

It's no Ruger, but you don't pay for a Chevette and get a Cadillac. How much are the accessories worth? I see the used Sauers sell for $100-$150 private sale and Elwood Epps just sold one for $200.

As with anything YMMV

It appears it's a Hawes Firearm. I guess that the website I've looked up the approximate value on has figured doing a generic blurb about the value of JP Sauer's Hawes line is more useful than breaking it down by specific firearm..."HAWES FIREARMS : REVOLVERS
Rather than give an individual listing of the various single action and double action (including Medallion models) revolvers that have been imported, a generalized price range is as follows: centerfire single actions usually are in the $200-$395 range, centerfire double actions are $175-$295, while .22 rimfire models are typically valued between $100-$200."

Sounds like he's between 100 and 150 high on this, even with a metal two gun combo locking case and a combo trigger plus leather holster for it. I don't have a good bead on how much a metal locking case is, but it's definitely not ~100.
