As the title states, any idea what an honest value would be on a decent used Savage 170 pump action 30-30? It's in decent condition with honest wear and patina. Thanks in advance!7

I did some reading on the Model 170 because I didn't recognize the name. They were introduced in the 70s to compete with the Remington 760 series and the Browning pump something or other. They are uncommon which means they didn't sell very many. Seems to be based on the Savage Model 30 shotgun with the problems that come from it. Apparently not great triggers on either. Secondly, the 30-30 rim has been mentioned as a feeding issue.

I've had a few, they like being used roughly and cycle reliably. They load and operate identical as a pump shotgun. They also only hold 4 shots.

Had one. Really liked it. Wound up selling it to a friend. He loves it.

Biggest issue is parts. Wore out the little plastic piece that they have, where the mag tube connects to the action. Old, cheap brittle plastic, but the gun doesn’t function without it. Fortunately for me, I had access to a lathe and was able to turn a new one out of aluminum.
