Hello,

i looking to sell one of my pistol, it's a S&W 357 mag, model 13-3, 4in barrel it's in pretty good shape, low round count, blue have normal ware, no rust.

i don't see a lot of those handgun on EE forum, that's why i have to ask about a price

Thank's

respectfully

Marc

One sold recently in the EE for $275 shipped.

With 4" prohib 12(6) barrel length you'd be hard pressed to get much more than that.

Marstar has one they want $425 for. They have a Model 65 for the same money.

I won't ever sell my Model 13. I have left very clear instructions. It will be in my shoulder holster, in my casket.

Attaboy! Those 13's are serious guns, fixed sight .357 magnums are serious social medicine.

If the 4 inchers are worth so little, I'm guessing a 3 inch Magnaported would be worth even less? ;)

Sadly, that inch costs you nearly 1/3 of the .357 magnum's muzzle energy. (ballisticsbytheinch.com)

9mm, on the other hand, loses less than 10% going from 4 inches to 3, and is just about equal (comparable magnum load) at that 3" barrel length. For 3" wheel guns, my favorite is the S&W Model 547... now if you had one of THOSE Magnaported and maybe factory Satin Nickel (I've only ever seen one) you would have a new best friend.

I sold my Model 13. It was a toss up between it & my 4" Model 19. The 19 has a slicker action, so with the adjustable sites, I decided to keep it.

But I do get your sentiments regarding the venerable Model 13, though. Totally.

I recently bought one that had been fired very little, with the original box, for $325.

The shame of the stupid 12.6 rules is that we have to sell $600 guns for only $300. I see 12.6 guns on EE for $400+ and realize the seller is asking what it is worth, but not what he can actually get.

Most of us with 12.6 have already gorged ourselves on lots of nice guns at cheap prices, so prices are actually going down.

I have a box of chrome plated Saturday Night Specials that I sell for $50 each as "Place Holders" so a guy can sell his PPK and still hold his 12.6 status.

I agree but, flame on here, a pistol caliber with half moon clips in a revolver just seems....wrong!
No matter 3 or 4 inches for a .357, I still won't want to stand in front of one when it goes off! LOL!!

The 547 has no need of moon clips. It has a really cool spring extractor system that catches each lovely 9mm bullet and holds it where it needs to be. When you're done, you depress the extractor rod, just like any other wheel gun. I even have HKS Speedloaders for my 547 revolvers. They're more accurate than shooting .38 wadcutters in my other guns, and according to the ballistic tables, you're getting plenty of power out of the bullet, with no appreciable loss when you move from 4" to 3", where the .357 loses 1/3 of the foot pounds it has available at 4 inches when you go to 3...

Plus 9mm is so darned cheap.

Agreed, there's no point standing in front of a short-barreled .357 magnum. Your clothes would surely catch fire when all that unused powder makes an awesome fireball, even if the bullet missed you. At 2 1/2 or 3 inches, they're flamethrowers. At 4 inches they start being revolvers. Amazing, that little difference. Heck, add another 0.2 inches and they quit being such a threat to society. Bolt everything onto a pre-1898 antique frame ... sorry, got carried away there.

I saw a bunch of the 547s in the 80s. Never ever thought about getting a 9mm revolver as we had legal normal cap mags then. 15 was and still is better than 6! Didn't know the ballistics issues the .357 has vs. the 9mm. At least I can get an awesome fireball!
This is one of those wish I knew then what I know now situations!
