I was thinking around the $650 mark due to condition and 16 gauge, it is virtually spotless. The blueing on the receiver is actually better than shown on the receiver, poor light and fingerprints make it look worse. What do you think?

Personally I think $650 is high too. As pointed out its a field grade. And as nice as it is, it doesn't seem like there's that much of a market for Model 12s, At least for 12 ga. ones.

Maybe 16 ga. is different but I doubt it.

I have no doubt it's worth $650, however you'll be hard pressed to get more than $350 out of it. Shooter model 12's tend to bring around $125, with really nice stuff around the $275 mark at auction. A real shame considering they were pulling close to the $1000 mark for a while, pre steel shot.....

For a gun that is going to be used I would agree. The model 12's are collectors and this one is in that category

Model 12's are great guns and I have some. Unfortunately the only field grade model 12 that is always in the eye of a collector is a 28ga.
Also they look for unaltered originals no rebluing , furnature restoration, VR over plain barrel etc when gathering the other gauges with 16 being very common.
You have a nice gun there and I hope you get what you desire. That being said a pretty clean one sitting at Prophet River for some time now at 395.00 have a look on line. Yes 12ga which normally brings a few more bucks than a 16 in today's market. 16's in general not that popular anymore other than us die hards that refuse to let them go
Perhaps stuff55 will chime in he forgot more about model 12's than I will ever know and he bang on with the pricing of them in canada. take care

Nice clean model 12 I would suggest a retail price of $350-$400 you should be able to get that for it as stated it is a very soft market at this time. My wish is that someone would develope a shot material that is inexpensive & comparable with vintage smoothboes then watch the prices of model 12"s & auto 5" go through the roof One can dream can"t they FYI model 12"s only made in take down the model 25 was the non take down

Do you have the original shipping box and tags as well? Price would go up in some markets. Check out Dave Riffles gun page if you want some out of the real world prices...

Some models as much as 50% but it also has to be unfired and serial number on box match gun. Learned that the hard way when I sold off a 30 gun batch of unfired collectables many years back
Also since you mentioned Riffles site check out the finish on the original model 12 field grades.take care

Is it a re-blue or original finish? If original, was it a "closet gun" - meaning put away and never shot. Is there wear on the slide and mag tube? I can't tell from the pictures?
