notsorichguy, your Gold Cup pistol is quite rare if I understand correctly. Also, you paid quite a bit of cash for it. IMHO, you should get/trade for an AR of higher *reputation*. Most AR ppl are casual shooters/collectors (myself included). In order to sell to them, the characteristic that would earn you the most money back is the "reputation" of your AR. E.g. Most ppl here would get a chubby just thinking about a genuine Colt 6920 or 6940. If you had one you could command a very good price. In a similar vein, a Noveske brand, KAC (Knights Armament) or even possibly an LMT AR-15 would hold its value very well. Other solid brands STAG, Sabre should also be o.k. I'm not sure of the RRA, Dlask, Bushmaster, Armalite, DPMS brands. These should be functional even good but not HOT highly sought after brands. On the other end of the spectrum are completely serviceable ARs that probably won't hold their value very well like Olympic Arms or the Chinese brands (Norinco/Imperial Arms). Note *most* not all parts guns generally do NOT recoup most of their expense. Also with new brands like Remington, Sturm Ruger and even Para-USA coming out, the collective CGN brain trust has yet to decide on their re-sale values. Buy at your own risk.
In short, either sell your Gold Cup then purchase an AR or wait for an offer of a good "reputation" AR to appear.
Good luck.
