I bought this from an estate. I don't know much about this rifle. I have been told it is a factory parkerized .22 rifle made for military training back about 1949, but the magazine has a plastic bottom...

I see one sold for $361 US with a description as follows:
Czech made BRNO Model 1 bolt action .22 LR repeater. This action was developed in 1943 during the WWII German occupation. The war-time recievers of these were marked "tgf", the manufacturer code assigned by the German Heereswaffenamt. Following the war, a stockpile of parts and receivers that were left over were used to make the Model 1. Some of these earlier receivers still have the German code "tgf", as seen on this rifle. The barrel measures 23" in length and the drift adjustable rear sight has one standing and two folding blades for 50, 75 and 100 meter ranges. The receiver is grooved for scope mounts and the box magazine is detachable. The Model 1 was discontinued in 1957.

Mine is in excellent condition, nicer than the one described above.

The top of the receiver is marked tgf

serial number on right side of action is 09049

I was given a mod1 when I was about 10 yrs old 50 yrs ago.. It unfortunately was hacked down to 18 in but even now it is a tack driver, and will put 10 shots into a dime sized group at 50 yds. These are a very well made rifle very accurate and are absolutely reliable. I have seen these go for $450 plus at gun shows here in AB. Mine has served me well for the 50yrs I have had it! If I could only have 1 .22 this would be the gun
My 2 cents

A run of the mill model 1 would start about $400 and up. Yours would be worth a lot more to a collector who wants a TGF. It has probably been refinished perhaps at the factory in the 90s. Nobody seems to know the exact provenance of the TGFs. Some say they were manufactured in a parallel run of serial numbers with the #1s as training rifles for East Germany post war. The only thing I can see missing is the narrow sling swivels. The plastic bottom mag is the most common found and most likely an off the shelf replacement.
My guess is it would be snapped up right away at $500 but would sit for a while at $700 so let's say $600.

Nice find.
The magazine should be all steel. Someone has probably lost the original and just replaced it. Your rifle appears to be in excellent condition from the pictures. I've seen them on the EE here advertised for between $500-600 in the condition your looks to be in.
Scott....

It looks like one of the ones that Dave Campbell at London Guns imported some years ago. They were a batch that had been used by the Czechs that went back to the factory and were refurbished to new. There were some target rifles as well.

re: tgf

"The Correct Title (In German) for Cz.ZB is "WaffenFabrik Brunn" ( with Umlaut over "u"). German Title adopted Mid 1939, after full takeover of Czechoslovakia (March 1939).

It was also colloquially known (in German) as "Der Tchekischke Gewehr Fabrik" ( TGF)...a name which stuck in the Post-war Communist codes ( after 1948) for the ID of Brno,("tgf") for the Equipment furnished to DDR (East Germany)."
