I now have my grandfather's b.s.a. martini rifle model 6 with original sights etc. It has a few bumps and dings but otherwise is in good condition. Do I have a .22 to let my boys learn on or does it have some value? My search on the internet doesn't seem to help much. Any comments would be appreciated.

Model 6?
I have never seen one listed as model 6
I am not a expert on these.
there are model 12, 15 ,12/15, 13 intenational, mk 2 , 3 & 5
and ISU model
the common ones run in the $ 3-400 area with the international models
X2.

Haven't heard of that model 6 either. Did have a BSA Supersport 5 at one time that was a bolt action target rifle which may be similar to what you have there.

Prices vary on condition and very good condition examples of the 12, 15 ,12/15, 13 can run in the $500.00 - $600.00 with prices dropping from there on useage / wear. Add another couple hundred on the top end for excellent condition Internationals.

I would guess that it would be worth at least what the other Martini actioned .22s are worth, maybe slightly more, $300-500 in good shape. All these are remarkable little guns, very well made, strong actions, most can be converted to much higher pressure central fire rounds, which may be an option for one with a worn out barrel. In the 50s and 60s, thousands in the US, Canada, and esp. Australia, were converted to hi-vel c.f. varmint rounds, I've seen one (Australian) in .222Rimmed.

Thanks for the responses. This gives me a ballpark and some possible future ideas of conversion to a small c.f. round. FWIW if you follow the link provided by "Busta Capp" above my rifle is identical to the bottom one pictured (except mine has the rear peep sight instead of the v-grove). Thanks again to all.

What no one has said is "It is a great rifle to learn on". I have a model 12. It is a soft recoil and very accurate. The falling block means your son(s) will have to get used to one shot one kill.

The tapered barrel of the Model 6 would make it desirable to some people that want one for their kids. The heavy barrelled models are great, but a 27" or heavy barrel is a bit much for a youngster.
