Hi,I have an old colt 1860 .44 cal revolver.Has been in the family since 1892.
Just wondering the value if I were to sell it.It is being deregistered now.

All numbers match what I can see.No parts missing.Bore seems fine.No rust or pitting.brass grip strap,Navy scene still visiable on cylinder.Pistol grip has only minor handling marks. 7.5 inch round barrel,Serial # 897x

On cylinder it reads patend date 1850.

Any ideas how much it is worth?

Cheers,Eric

Eric,

If you do a quick search on www.gunbroker.com you can get a sense of what the gun is worth (by comparing it to the condition of the other colt 1860s for sale).

Do you have any records of who originally owned the gun? I did a quick search at Springfield Research Service - and your gun is in the same serial number range as ones issued to the New York Cavalry -

Without any pictures to judge condition the min. value is probably in the $1,000 US range - and if in great condition, with provenance (e.g., documents linking the gun to a soldier or unit) is worth much more. Check the serial number on the wedge - if it matches the gun will be worth more (many Colts have mismatched serial numbers on the wedge).

Good luck if you decide to sell the gun -- and please post it for sale on Gunnutz so we can all have a chance to buy it! -- but it would make a nice "keeper" and family heirloom - especially if its been in the family since 1892!

1860 Colt deregistration

I'm curious why was the Colt registered in the first place? Only a repro required registration. As I said just curious:) -Cody
