hello, i am looking for some kind of valuation on a Kar71 made by in steyr in 1876. original condition (ie not bubba'ed), numbers seem to match exept possibly the rear sight, the number which is partially obliterated. unit marked. good to very good condition.

Aka Mauser M71 Carbine. Not many go up for sale, so it's not real easy to judge.

I'm thinking $500-600, if all original and complete, bore Good+, stock not sanded, nor refinished. An exceptional example might go $750.

this would be the karabiner 71 not the gewehr 71 and not the later 71/84.

any ideas on what an original sling would look like?

would this also be known as a 71/84 or is that a different model?

Different gun - this is a single-shot Carbine. The M71 Rifle (also an Antique) was the predecessor to the M71/84 (not an Antique because it's a repeater). They shoot the same round, but the bore sizes differ - typically 0.452" ish for the M71 and 0.446" ish for the 71/84. Fun guns that are well made and are a riot to shoot, although components are expensive.

the early mauser are very interesting rifles. they must have been pretty common at one time to see the old dominion ammo floating around gunshows.
