Hi all
I want to sell a scope that I inherited from my Father in law; a Leopould Vari-X-3 in 1.5x5, but I have no idea as to it's value. It has a tiny chip in the ocular lens that, according to Leopuld Canada, would cost about $80 to repair/replace. I have no use for this scope, otherwise I would have the work done, it's just taking up space on my shelf. Apart from the chip and some markings from where the rings were mounted, it's in very good condition. Could anyone please give me a ballpark estimate as to what I should be asking pricewise before I post it on the EE?
Any advice would be welcome!

A new one is north of $500. Not going to be an easy sell with the chipped lens. You might have to either sell it cheap, as is, or have it repaired. Even repaired, it might be a hard sell for $350, given ring marks and repair.

Nope. $125 plus shipping. With ring marks and a damaged lens you lose a bit extra due to the inconvenience. Last one I bought was $250 with light ring marks but a recent clean bill of health from Korth in the original box and with the green wrapping cloth.

For all you have into it ($0), why not have it fixed up and toss it into the safe? Something will come along that you will want to use it on or offer it as a trader. You're only gonna have $80 into it either way.

That makes sense. These are useful scopes. I had target knobs put on one for Service Rifle, and they are an excellent hunting scope.

I had a beat up Leupold scope and sent it in.
Took a bit to get back, but surprise surprise surprise.........branspanking new VX II.

Spend the coin and send it in.
Never know how generous they will be and whut the package will bare.

Giddeeupp-goooooooooooo.............

I believe that reticle changes are $40.

I'm well known for saying that if I could only have one hunting scope it would be the 1.5-5x Leupold. I only have 2 currently...one on my 416 Rigby and the other on my 257 Weatherby.
