Silly question for the shotgun crowd...

- How would you price something like this

Winchester M50, WS-1 (skeet) barrel that got cut for a Lyman Cutts Compensator. Custom wood stock and forend.

- Two owners, not that it matter

Tks,

Unfortunately the value is greatly diminished by the alterations. It was most likely stylish in the day but presently not. The value is in the sum of it's parts. The receiver and forend. The rest is of little to no value.

To use the gun it most likely would need a new recoil spring. When new they measure 13" , when they get down to 11" it's time for replacement. The recoil spring is the essential component of the guns timing which is important in it's function. Springs are available at Wolf springs.

It is a "retro" piece that someone might like but not for the current market so you would have to find the right person. As said above....the sum of the parts and not replacement value.....$250 to $350 in my opinion, since you asked. You didn't mention how well or badly it functions. The M50 and M51 had a really weird butt - heavy balance that few shooters would like these days.

Need some Elvis shoes to go with it.
Lots of fancy.
Too much, in fact.

I'd toss $550 on it.
Heck, even the decent 84's and 840's are reaching the $250 + mark.

If that stock was left handed I'd be all over it. I been shooting my Model 50 field grade for over fifty years and absolutly swear by it.

I'm not a "shotgun guy" but are you sure the stock is after market and not factory? I think that guns could also be ordered with the Cutts Compensator from Winchester, ie, it's not Bubba.

If the Cutts was factory the barrel would not have a WS1 choke roll stamp . There would be no choke roll stamp. Also the Cutts would be a flanged attachment. The stock is no way close to factory. Back in the 1960's these roll over stocks were somewhat popular with some shooters

It's a super cool gun. Great shape and is very unique. You would be giving it away at $250-$300. I'd ask in the $500-$600 range, and I think you'd get it.

IMO it's an abomination. WS1 barrels were such great chokes that to turn one into a bubba'd Cutts bbl is just sad. That gun would have such nice smooth lines w/o that conglommeration on the bbl and coupled with that nice wood and an original WS1 barrel a real prized possession.
I agree. That Cutts ruined a round post factory WS-1 barrel.

I have two excellent original condition M50 WS-1 Skeet guns, a 12 ga and a 20 ga.

Here's the 20 ga:

Re the Cutts Compensator: in the 30s, 40s and 50s the Cutts was popular for skeet as it added front-end weight and a big blob at the muzzle for the sight picture. Also, the SKEET choke, with fiber wad loads really blew up targets... the pattern was dynamite for skeet. How times have changed!
Definitely an after market stock set... probably by Fajen back then.
