I have an 1967 Savage 99c that I got for my 15th birthday. About 15 years ago I repaired the almost universal tang crack in the stock (pinned and epoxied) and hunted with it for a few years and after probably 100 rounds it is fine and barely noticeable. I also shimmed the mount with brass shim stock to relieve any pressure. It has since become a gun locker queen and ultimately will go to one of my kids. At the time I repaired it, I also picked up a pretty much pristine used stock set which has sat in box on the shelf for years. I'm cleaning out things and will probably get rid of of one set of stocks. Not sure whether it is better to keep the gun original or whether to restock it with the good set. Is there any market for used stocks that have been repaired - no idea what I would even ask for it or if I decide to sell the other good one what it is worth. I was at a gun show yesterday and told one of the vendors that I had this and he was pushing me pretty hard to give him a price on it. Whatever way I decide to go, I recall how bad I felt when I first saw that crack and will just sell it to a another gun owner rather than a dealer. I don't want to to shortchange myself and I don't want to gouge someone either because I know how hard these are to find - anyone have any ideas on prices for used/repaired and used undamaged?
