An elderly gentleman that I look after has asked me to find out the value of a WW1 Smith and Wesson .455 revolver that his father had presented to him when he became an officer in WW1. His father in turn passed it on to him and he has no children and has no one else to give it to.
I volunteered to find out a ballpark figure for him as he told me he probably is gonna "kick the bucket in the near future, and doesn't want his wife to get stuck trying to figure out what to do with it (probably turn it in to the police for chopping!!!!)
He said it has a 6" or so barrel and a normal pop out cylinder. The finish has about 50% left and he still has 2 boxes of ammo he bought about 30 years ago to go with it. (Dominion) And a shoulder holster of some type.
Any help with ballpark figures would be appreciated, as I know without pictures, it is really hard figuring out a value. I won't be able to get pictures for a week or so as he is in the hospital for respite care and I will have to go to his home when he is discharged to photograph it and put them online.
Thanks in advance.
