Hi everyone, I inherited a Baretta AL2 semi auto with a full choke 30" barrel. It shoots 2 3/4 only. I will NEVER sell it but I want to know how much to insure it for? Thanks in advance for your help!! I will try to post pics later. Did I mention it is in gunshop condition. Don't think my father inlaw put 200 rounds through it. It can shoot steel as well.

Jay T, the AL2 is a really nice semi, but how do you know it will handle steel O.K?

Jay T, I do not think that gun was designed for steel. I know many who have shot steel through a gun not designed for it, but I would not advise it.

PS Maybe the father in law had it altered?

steel wouldn't be an issue if you had the barrel opened up to a light modified.the full choke is apt to give you ring bulging where the bore starts to choke. as well, shooting steel through a full choke delivers a poor pattern in most caes but not all.if you open the choke and use nothing larger than #2 steel there really shouldn't be a problem.
 
Thats a gun I've never seen but from looking at the Blue Book the AL2 field is a $330.00 gun in new condition and drops accordingly based on condition. So for a used one like yours with a fixed full choke it's likely $250.00 - $300.00.
 
I would have some competent person measure the bore and the choke section of the muzzel and see if the choke restriction matches the bore designation. Like a previous poster said, your father in law may have had the bore honed.
