What do I have here, and what's it worth? I'd like to have a ballpark value before I put it on the EE. Has some ammo that could be included in a local deal as well.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this.

Instead of looking for a bunch of opinions, many of them without substance, other than emotional attachment, look at some of the BANNER ADVERTISERS, such as Intersurplus, BullseyeNorth, Frontier Outfitters. They have many similar firearms that IMHO are underpriced to move them quickly.

The Nazi markings on your rifle will only add value to someone that doesn't know better.

The job looks OK but as mentioned previously, condition is everything, inside and out.

I have a few similar rifles that I wouldn't sell for what Intersurplus is asking. They shoot better than most people can hold, with several different loads, including commercial offerings.

If you have a personal attachment to the firearm, just remember, it's worthless to whomever is purchasing it.

If it is still in 8x57 not everybody will be interested, as many people pass that cartridge off as obsolete blah blah blah. I am biased to that chambering.

It looks like a nice old rifle.

Very typical of a 50-mid 70 build on what was then a cheap surplus rifle.

Bishop stock and all.

Nice rifle, similar to the one I'm presently hunting with.

If that scope is nice and clear, you should look into handloading for it to European specs. It will do anything a 30-06 will do, such as 200grain bullets, safely propelled to 2600+fps, which is devasting on just about anything in North America when the shooter does their job and places the shot in the boiler room

That bullet will smash any bones it hits in an ELK, Moose or Bear.

$450 at most.

Looks to be in pretty good shape. Stock looks good and bluing still looks sharp.

Im not familiar with K98s all that much, is the barrel cut down?

The barrel is intact with the front sight. The rear sight base has been removed and that's definitely a reblue.

Mauser used a "special" dip and formula for their "blue" which was mostly "black". Many smiths and others I've spoken with called it "Neidner Blue" Some called it a "Kreighoff" blue

Google it for the formula, if you're looking for a deep black finish, which will darken some of those darn floorplates that refuse to accept a normal hot blue process.
