Hey gang,

After shooting 300 meters yesterday for the first time I realized my 24x scope is lacking.

I’m looking for a spotting scope to help me get a better visual of shots at 300 meters. It would be ideal if it wasn’t th size of a Volkswagen, and could fit in a small tripod (table mounted).

I really don’t want to spend much. What’s the best value? Need about 60x I’m guessing. I see some for $150, but don’t know if those are better for paperweights, or scopes?

i have the bushnell 20-60 spotting scope. i think it retails 350 ish, its alright but the eye relief is very small. the stand it comes with is pretty cheap but not terrible. like you, i shoot mostly rimfire so seeing the hits at a distance is tough. but it does the trick.

Thanks for the advice. I'm trying to decide if I can justify buying a Vortex Diamondback spotting scope.... I really don't want to spend that much ($600)

Please look at this before you decide.
Compare value and image quality.( and you can record and store )

.22 calibre holes are difficult to see at a 100 M with a medium priced spotting scope at 60X. Add heat shimmer and the tiny exit pupil, unforgiving eyebox and your heartbeat shaking the bench, and you may decide on an alternative.

Its worth a look

Cabelas has a Leupold Marksman spotter for $450. Leupold is usually good stuff, can't comment on this spotter specifically though. Could probably compare it side by side with the Diamondback in store though.

cheap spotters won't cut it for you and anyone else
My 33x Vortex Razor ($$) barely makes it for bullet holes at 300yds

buy once cry once

To clear things up a bit. Although I will be shooting .22LR out to 300 meters, I’m also going to be shooting .223 and 6.5 Creedmoor. I’m shooting “splatter targets”

That Caldwell camera system is super interesting. I’m going to do some research on that. Wonder if it’s something that could be DIY?
