What to expect at the VGC Fundshoot?

The VGC Fundshoot is a 120rd sporting clay course. The difficulty level of this course is set up to be more enjoyable as the shoot is just for fun and not an actual competition. If you have never shot sporting clays, the VGC Fundshoot is a excellent introduction.

There are a number of different kinds of shotguns you can bring to the VGC Fundshoot. See some quick examples below!

Over/Under Shotgun



Beretta DT-11 Pro TSK



Benelli 828U Field

The most common shotgun you will likely see is the over/under shotgun. You can bring an over/under shotgun with a barrel length of at least 26" or longer. Since sporting clays is sometimes referred to as simulated hunting, you can use a field gun or a sporting clays specific shotgun. The most useful choke constriction is Improved Cylinder and Modified or Light Modified and Modified. If you have an old fixed choke trap gun, no problem come try it out.

Semi Auto Shotgun

The second most popular option you will see are semi automatic shotguns. You can bring a semi auto shotgun with a barrel length of at least 26" or longer. They're sporting clay specific semi auto options and field guns as well and both are equally adequate. Since you only have one barrel option, the most common choke choice is Modified but it may be beneficial to keep a Improved Cylinder or Skeet choke on you just incase there is a station where the targets are both a lot close than usual.

Pump action shotgun

While not as common, a pump action is still a popular choice. You can bring a pump action with a barrel length of at least 26" or longer. There isn't as many sporting specific options with pump actions but there are a few. Most options will be field guns which are completely adequate for sporting clays. Once again, because you only have one barrel, the most common choke used will be a Modified like the semi auto shotguns but its not a bad idea to keep am Improved Cylinder on you for stations with closer targets.

Side By Side Shotgun



Rizzini BR552 Case Colour Hardened

Its unfortunate but the side by side shotgun has gradually slipped away from popularity. Options are limited and what is still being made today is usually quite expensive. A basic Beretta 486 side by side will cost significantly more than Beretta's most basic over under the Beretta 686. But the beauty of these shotguns are really something else and if they weren't so expensive, they would be the best upland hunting shotgun. There was some very rare sporting specific models made by AYA and CZ in the past but mostly everything these days are field guns.

We currently don't have any Beretta side by side shotguns but we do have Rizzini which are nice especially price compared to the Beretta 486. The Rizzini shotguns are also On Sale! Click HERE to see our models of Rizzini side by side shotguns.

Have a look at some of these Caesar Guerini shotguns. Invictus III with its incredible engraving.

The Invictus has a revolutionary action design. It uses the Invictus pivot cam, that takes the place of the barrel trunnion, and the Invictus block. The two cams and the block can easily be replaced making it the easiest gun to rebuild the action. Its not like you will need to do that very often though as Caesar Guerini has a 1 million round guarantee on this action. As an added bonus, the forend on the Invictus shotguns can easily be adjusted to remove slop from the forend and keep the gun feeling like its new.

Summit Sporting below is their most basic model but it doesn't look like a basic gun.

The Summit is Caesar Guerini's original action design before the Invictus. While the Invictus is their best action on the market, the Summit has proven itself now for years with some of these guns being on record for reaching 1 million rounds. These shotguns use Perazzi style ejectors with an improvement to the disassembly/reassembly design, large locking surfaces, and a forend that can adjust the tension at the Caesar Guerini service centers.
