So I have. S1 Weatherby Vanguard in 30-06. Every time I try to cycle the 2nd last cartridge it jams.

My buddy has an older vanguard in 300WBY so we did a side by side comparison of the follower and bolt. His follower spring is a bit longer at the center bend. I swapped it into my rifle and no issues and it cycled fine. Put my original back in and jamming resumed.

I call Weatherby who directed be to the Calgary Shooting Center as they are the authorized Weatherby repair/warranty centre in Canada. I explained the situation and was hoping to get a spring for the 300WBY to put in my 30-06 but the one I received was the same as I originally had. Curious to know if there is only one size for long action and one size for short action rifles. I’ve read others have the same issue and a $7 folded piece of metal could resolve a simple issue.

Does anyone know where I can order a 300WBY spring or have a part number? I guess I can’t attach pics but I do have some showing the point of jamming and the difference between springs.

I am assuming you tried the spring you received from Calgary Shooting Center and it did not help? - So return it and tell them it is incorrect and the one you need is longer... or swap with your buddy and see if your spring works in his rifle.

I did try the new spring and same issue occurred. I have emailed the warranty centre and will wait their reply.

In the meantime does anyone know where I can order this part if the center doesn’t have any in stock?

First thing:
Are you shooting factory 30-06 or reloads?
Second thing:
When you seat the rounds make sure you push them to the back - it could be that the 2nd last one moves forward due to the recoil

had a similar situation with my savage 223.

was a problem with the feed lip on one side of the internal magazine, only affected the second last round as well.

eventually went with an MDT chassis with the AI style mags, no problem.

Did you swap just the spring with your buddy's gun or the follower too?

Have you considered swapping the floorplate for the DBM kit?

I tried different combinations the the spring was always the difference. The follower itself wasn’t the issue.
I like the floor plate over the detachable mag.

FYI- CSC just got back to me today and they are sending a magnum spring.

Let us know what you find to be the difference between a standard 30-06 magazine spring, and a "magnum" spring - the reason that I am interested is that there are about a bazillion belted magnum rifles, made on WWI P17 actions, that are using the standard 30-06 military magazine spring - I have a couple here - I was not aware there was such a thing as a "magnum" magazine spring - live and learn, I guess.

Thinking about it - perhaps is possible / probable that Weatherby saved themselves a penny or two and made the 30-06 spring out of thinner material than the "magnum" spring?

I was thinking about what is happening - I do not own that kind of rifle, but I presume the magazine is a "double stack" magazine and that the first shell of five down goes to the right side - meaning your fourth round fired - the "problem child" - is the round resting on the "lump" on the follower - so perhaps is a subtle miss-match of that follower or the left side feed rail - that is overcome with a stronger magazine spring? And that might be what you refer to as a "magnum" magazine spring - maybe what you used was a spring that had stronger "push-up" pressure to it - maybe no dimensional difference at all - length, width, thickness?? I will find it interesting to hear what you eventually receive and what the result is?

The fore-going is 100% "old guy musings" - your issue might be something else altogether.
