Hi guys.. I came CGN with the intention of looking for 75 finnlight or maybe a Sub moa weatherby in a .243 or a 25-06 but I keep seeing this SS
Vanguard for a whole lot less $$$.. I understand why a lot of guys really like their plain jane $700 vanguards But I guess my question is ,what don't you like about them?? Their must be some disadvantages other than .5" moa differences, given the huge price discrepancies.. Any opinions will be much appreciated.

I should add that I've never actually handled either of the Vanguards.. but the finnlight seemed to fit me very well..

There is nothing wrong with the standard Vanguard. It is a well made rifle produced in Japan by Howa. The Howa 1500 is virtually the same rifle, often at even better prices.

The triggers suck, but other than that, I think they are a great rifle. I have one in 300WSM, and it is sure a shooter! Gets inside MOA most days.[ I did install a Timney] Eagleye.

I had a Vanguard in .257 Wby Mag. The stock fit me well, although the forearm had too much flex for my liking, the action was fairly smooth, not sticky. Push feed if that matters to you. Not so much to me in a .257. Hinged floor plate assembly worked fine and was all metal. The trigger is not great. Gritty, creepy and too heavy. It made for so-so groups in field positions, but on the bench it could be accurate. A good 'smith can work the trigger, or a drop in replacement can easily be purchased to remedy the issue. If I had kept the rifle, I would have had the trigger worked on for ~ $35. For the money, I think they are a good value. As always get your hands on one and see how it fits you. Some fellas don't like the monte carlo style stock with the drop comb......

X2...

I have a SS sub-moa model Vanguard in 22-250. The trigger was brutal. Replaced it with Timney. World of difference.

I just bought a Vanguard in 300 wm with the desert tan rubber covered stock I love it the trigger is a bit heavy but its not the worst I've ever had i'll end up replacing it. other then that its my new all round hunting rifle. A matter of fact I replaced my mark 5 accu with it and I don't regret it at all.

I have a .243 and a .300wby in stainless, synthetic stocks. Both fit like a dream and are very accurate. As Eagleye says, the triggers are brutal. I have replaced them with Timney and that simple change has made them even better. So I guess you have to add the cost of the Timney into the price of the rifle.

Ive owned two Vanguards , one sub moa and a regular plain synthetic. They are very well made rifles that are strong and hardy, they do differ from a Howa in that howa only produces them in 22 inch barrel where as most Vanguards are 24 inch in non magnums.I like them a whole lot better than my savages and remingtons

the only thing i don't like about my vanguard is that it has an internal mag with a hinge plate. i really wish that weatherby would make the mag conversion for .243 . other then that it has the fit, feel, and quality that meets my needs.
