I tend to favour 180gr. flat-based spitzers of the Sierra ProHunter variety for precision work with Enfields.
I read somewhere that the Enfields' rifling does better with flat-based spitzers than with boat tails. I don't know why but all the better groups I got from my best "bubbaed" no.4 are from recipes with flat-based bullets.
The load that revealed the accuracy of that rifle was a particular lot of Federal Classic with the aforementioned Sierra Pro-Hunter bullet. I bought it just before a moose hunt and headed for the range for tuning.
From the start I got groups hovering around 1"!
The two last groups shot from that box
after the hunt (4 shots each, divided between me and a friend who is a good shooter) netted two 3/4" groups.
I can tell you I bought all the boxes from that lot at Canadian Tire!
I'm trying to find the exact powder/powder weight combination for these.
Now I think I've got it nailed. Better, two powders give me about the same results.
I'll post it soon.
