Please help. i just bought a pound of varget at a show saskatoon. I opened it up and was surprised to see the color of the powder a light gray not the usual black and it had a strong powder smell. Kind of a citrius smell. Is this normal or is this powder turning.

Mine is mostly silver-grey with a bunch of yellow ones mixed in.

Varget is great stuff if you can find a way to fit it into a casing!

Thanks for the info. I will give it a try in my .22-250

If thats the cartridge your using it in it ignites well in the cold, but in my experience those same ignition properties make a lot of barrel heat mirage in the cold..Accuracy was better with 380 in my gun to. just my .02$

I have tried Varget in .223 and .308. Not with a whole bunch of different bullets, but just enough that it didn't impress me. Lot of people here swear by it however.

Yellow doesn't sound right to me. All of mine has been uniformly grey.
