Variable for rimfire?

looking for scope for a 17M2, it currently wears a bushy banner 3-9x40mm that is alright out past 50m but won;t focus inside. any thoughts? was considering a weaver "rimfire 2-7x28mm" but would prefer something in the 40mm size range. don;t need anything over 12x.

My choice for the reasons you mentioned a bushnell 4X 12 X40 AO. The same scope is on my 2 CZ's and my brno----Cowboy

I just put the same scope (4-12x40AO) on my Marlin 7000 and found it to be quite good.

Good choice for the numbers but which model ? Banner ,Sportsman etc.

All my scopes including the one on my 270 are banners. I find that 22 cal scopes are inferior. I like the ability to set the parallex down to 30 yds which is were I do 80% of my shooting with the 22. When I make a 100 yd shot I can fine tune in a heart beat. I will admit I don't actually use the variable power. My CZ american and Brno #2 I leave at 6X, the CZ 17 HMR is set at 8X. My 270 I leave at 6X(no AO)----Cowboy

I'd pick something with an adjustable objective so you can focus at different ranges without using the eyepiece. Parallax shouldn't be an issue then...
