I mentioned to a friend that I had loaded up several hundred rounds of varmint loads in the last few days, and he was asking about some of my varmint cartridges, so I placed them side by side for comparison. From left to right 17mach2, 17hmr, 17hornet, 17fireball, 20vartarg, 20 tactical.

That's a good selection and that's just the varmint rounds...

Since I spend way more time shooting varmints than anything else, I have a good selection of varmint cartridges. I have a Cooper rifle with Zeiss scope for each of those cartridges, and all are very accurate, with the two 20 calibers being the most accurate.

Looks like a hole in slot 5 & 8...

I don't plan on adding any more cartridges, if anything, I could do fine with a few less.:)

Which 20 cal do you prefer? Or can you tell a difference on game?

I carry the 20 tactical for coyotes, because it is more effective at longer ranges. The 20 vartarg is a better choice for ground squirrels and such, because the barrel doesn't heat up as quick. If I could own only one, it would be the 20 tactical, and I would use the 17 hornet in place of the 20 vartarg.

Wow, you take varmints really far. I only have .22LR, .17HMR, .223 and .243 win. I figure I can get it done with one of those :)

It's a hobby. And given that I shoot more varmints in a year than anything else, I don't mind investing the cash. The 20 tactical took down another coyote yesterday afternoon, and I hope to take several more this winter.

That fireball looks potent. Any of them stand out for you?

oops...answered...sorry, missed that.

Thanks for sharing. Nice coloured tips by the way :)
