Can anyone recommend a good, but budget-conscious .223 bolt action that comes standard with Iron Sights?

Im after a 'yote gun but I dont want a useless gun if I drop it and break my glass.

Do ya find your self dropping rifles with some frequency? Most of the new scopes and mounts are pretty durable. I don't recall seeing any of the budget rifles with open or iron sights on them, occaisionally found on Tikka, but not a budget rifle. FS
 
Savage scout has open sights though I'm not sure if they make it in .223 (.308 for sure)..Pretty limited on the whole open sites thing...BLR is another but I think you'd have to go .243 for that..plus what does budget conscious mean? 600, 700, less than 1000?
 
Why would you want iron sights on a 22 centre fire varmint rifle? For a good scope and mounts expect to spend the cost of the inexpensive rifle again. Therefore your sitting at almost a grand now...so don't be dropping the thing :)))
 
Not sure what kind of abuse you expect it stand up to. But if you are dropping it hard enough to possible damage or break a scope you can count on moving irons when it gets dropped that kind of hard. Either way irons are always a good thing to have although taking a broken scope off in the field will usually require tools of some sort.

Not sure what you are looking for, but if it has to have irons, then you won't be reaching past a couple hundred yards to take aim at a coyote (unless you are trying to hide wile behind the front post :D ). So supreme accuracy is not really that key. My choice, would be a used ruger mini 14 blued and wood. Plain as they come, accurate enough for intermediate ranges and tough enough that it can be used without much worry.

The Savage Scout was originally only made in .308 Winchester and 7mm-08. They don't offer it in 7mm-08 anymore.
 
The tikka t3 I just bought in 223 has the drill holes for iron sights don't know if it was factory or not. The local gun store in town has a rem i beleive in 22-250 don't know what model has iron sights for around 550 ish.

There is a new rifle maufacturer out there called:eek: ....I think It's Uhm, Uh,.... Savage or something like that and I hear they make a sub grade too:eek:......it's a person's name, I think started with an "S".....Stevens, maybe. Might be accurate out of the box if you get a poor one and could even find a rusty, used one with a shot out barrel somewhere that might still shoot 1/2"moa at 50yds:bsFlag:.... maybe on EE.

My point was Savage makes a great wood stock open sight with a blind mag in 223 and no-one had mentioned it to the man. Savage is also much cheaper than the other models listed also by at least $100. He did say it was a budget gun. Just trying to help. Stevens in 223 is cheaper yet but comes with a scope in package models for about $400. H&R handi-rifle single shots also come with open sights for even less money. Just takes a while to get the barrels broke in.

The model of Savage I thought would fit your needs was the 11G with a blind box magazine and it comes in 223, 22-250, 243, 7mm-08, and 308. The 111G has all the long action calibers. All have walnut stained hardwood stock and open sights.
I bought a package model 11FYCXP3youth for myself. It comes with a synthetic stock, a bore-sighted 3-9 scope, clip, and cheapo sling. I think they are $400- $450 range. This model only came in 243 and 308. The model 11FYXP3youth comes in 223, 243, and 7mm-08 with a blind box magazine, scope and sling. These youth models are not real true youth models. The LOP is 13", so I still had to shorten the stock to fit me at 12". A recoil pad would make it 14".
Stevens has a slightly cheaper package and has no clip.
