OK!! I am going to do the unthinkable. I am going to ask THE MASSES, what MAKE/MODEL and what CALIBRE I should buy for coyotes. Let's keep in mind I DO NOT handload, and I do not really want to spend more than $500 new or used. What are the suggestions? I lean towards the 22 centrefires but can be persuaded. Let me have it!

Savage 22-250, 223, what ever. Pick a savage model and have a good time with the left over money. Caliber is only really important if you are keeping the pelts.

$500.00 is pretty tight, but you might find something used. I'd be inclined to look for a .243, but anything up to a .30-06 will work fine unless you are hunting for fur and a .270 would be dynamite. A .22-250 isn't a bad choice, but the thing about small bores is that those light bullets get pushed around by the wind.

It is unlikely that your budget will allow tweaking by a gunsmith, so stick to the makes and models that are known to give good accuracy and have decent factory triggers; Remington M-700, Winchester M-70, Tikka, etc.

Stevens 200 brand new is $329 and I think that's as cheap as your going to get for something that shoots well and new. If your going to do alot of shooting stick with the .22 cal unless you got the money to dump on ammo.

Used varmint rifles are a crap shoot they typically see way more rounds than a biggame gun. You budget has Stevens all over it, add a Bushnell banner 4-12 and you are right at 500, if you can't cross 500 you migh have to back off to a 3-9 if your calling that is no real diasadvantage, either 22-250 or 223 will work, though they are not the 204 ruger.

The only econo gun that comes in 204 is the handi rifle I have it and I really like it as a predator gun.

What type of distance will you be likely shooting?

Are you wanting to keep the pelt?

Will you be shooting alot?

Personally when I start going for Predators, Im thinking of going for the Ruger 204. Reason is from reading on here, the recoil isnt bad and you can actually watch your bullet strike through the scope

Stevens 200 in 223 stoked with 75gr Amax. You have a coyote rig with a 350/400yds effective range. You have access to lots of factory ammo if you don't want to reload.

If you don't mind a fixed, the Elite 3200 10X is inexpensive and very useable. Personally, I want a variable.

The Burris Fullfield II 3x9 will push you just over the $500 mark but has the ballistic plex which is nice for quick doping. Contact me as I have one for sale.

I shy away from recommending 'low' end products as a scope failure/fogging just ruins the whole experience.

If you don't reload and are on a budget, then you're pretty much out of options. You're looking at a new Stevens, or NEF in 223, or 22-250. You can find factory varmint ammo in virtually any cartridge from the 22 Hornet to the 25-06, though availability and price aren't always good once you're out of the 223/22-250 camp.

Also keep a keen eye on the EE for a used gun. Guns in suitable varmint calibers turn up all the time, and you can sometimes get one for a real good price especially if you're not picky about the condition of the finish

It depends on whether you want to keep the pelt or just kill the pest. I have had a lot of success with a 22 Magnum http://www.marlinfirearms.com/Firearms/22WinMagnum/983S.aspx

I flip from open sights around the house to a small scope when I am out back in the bush. I run a mix of CCI V+ in there and Remington JHPs, depending on the varmint.

Glock4ever, not heard of any savage/stevens with wouldn't stabilize the 75gr Amax. My Stevens shoots these very very well - read my post in the precision forum.

Will not work with the new 80gr Amax though.
