I recently built a varmint specific rifle that suits my wants/needs.
- Rem700 SPS AAC, in 223Rem with the 18" barrel
- HS Precision stock with palm swell
- Leupold Mark AR 6-18X40, maillot reticle and 4" objective sunshade
- Harris 9-13" notched leg bipod and a 13-27" for late season in the snow
I wanted a bull barrel but had to cut the weight so that it was not a pig to carry when walking ridge lines. 223Rem does well in a short barrel, inexpensive to shoot, and has no recoil. I wanted the flexibility in my optics for close or long range.
Planning to build another just for walking hunts on coyotes, fox, and bobcat. Thinking of going with a skinny barrelled 22-250 in either a Rem700 or Model Seven and the same scope on my previously mentioned rig.
