hey guys, i have a friend who has a line on a var x 1 leupold scope(3.9.40)....question is, will hold up to the abuse from a .338 win mag?...seems i get alot of conflicking reports!!...thanks for any help......larry

The Vari-X 1 is the old Vari-X II, they had a good reputation for durability.

Not really... the new "Rifleman" series scopes are the same lenses as the old VaryX-II... The new VX series are better yet.
That said ... you are correct in that VaryX-I is very good glass that will withstand the recoill from any firearm.:)

I think I already said this once... the Rifleman has the same lenses and single coating (Magnesium Flouride) as the old VariX-2... The new VX-I has the new fully multi coated lenses!
But don't take my word for it... look it up.;)
