Hey everyone, I recently got a Vector Optics SKS Picatinny Rail and fit it nice and tight on my sks. However after shooting about 180 rounds I noticed the shots were going off a bit. I checked the rail and noticed it came loose for some reason by a mm or 2. I readjusted it etc but couldn't get it tight again. Has this happened to anyone else ? I was able to add some black electrical tape that I had in my range box to one of the ears and it is nice and tight again. Only shot off about 40-50 more rounds but it seems to be holding up and the tape looks the same way as I first put it on. I like the $25 rail minus the 30 mins of sanding I had to do. I dont want to spend $125 on the new canada made long rail and want to keep this one. Has this happened to anyone else before and what did you do to fix it ?

Remove the takedown pin and replace it with a 1/4-20 bolt. Make sure to have the cover in place when you tap it. There is one other idea that may work that one fellow enthusiast and I are trying. It involves welding a plate to the back of the cover. It hangs down so that it just touches the receiver. The hope is that it will help distribute the shock so that it's not just those two front vee points taking a pounding. Results are pending, but it's looking good so far.

Magwedge gen1 rails on sale at $69.95 ... not $25 but a pretty nice price for what you get.

Thanks EL34/6L6 and weasel1. I heard jb weld is the best solution but to also try solder and flux. weasel1 I will try your way if the two I mentioned dont work in the long run. Im thinking it should tho. Black electrical tape hasnt torn so far after the 40-50 rounds and its a quick 1-2min fix if it happens again. Also I added my own shield deflector made from some sheet metal and drilling three holes in the receiver attaching the deflector with 3 nuts and bolts. Looks and works great to protect my scope. Id add a pic but I cant at the moment.

Hope it works out for you, but these mounts are generally considered garbage, regardless of manufacturer.
The dust cover for the SKS was never intended to mount optics, and as such, usually has some play in it.

The main reason I went with the receiver cover mount is it isn't permanent. I can still go back to the way it should be in the future if I choose. Now if Mr Magwedge up there had that deal before I started making my mount, I world have bought that one.

noea77, my mount started out looking exactly like yours. I cut the rail off, filed it flat, bolted on weaver 63b rail (for a lower profile), added the shell deflector to the end of the rail and welded that plate to the back. Super important that the plate is a tight fit against the receiver. Otherwise it isn't doing anything.

Thanks for the reply again weasel1. I to dont want to alter the sks cause I like using the cross hairs from time to time. Wish I had a welding kit to make the mount lower like yours but I just used tiny scope mounts, so its not to high. I tried the solder and flux this morning but it seems I might have the wrong flux as its not doing what it should like the youtube videos Ive seen. Might have to try the JB weld method or just stick with the electrical tape as it holds pretty good and is an easy fix.

Heres what mine looks like with the little piece of tape making it tight. Dont mind the black smudges. I just blacked out serial # on MS paint
