Velocitor bullets in my old handguns?

Hi Guys,

The Subject Line says it all.

I still have a few boxes of Velocitor .22 Long Rifle ammunition. And was wondering if it would be good-to-go in my vintage Model 61 S&W Escort. That little puppy needs a lot of oomph to cycle reliably. Which is really really important.

I have an old 1960's Model 34 Kit Gun, and it seems fine with them Velocitors.

(As it should ... the J-frame was actually made for .38's)

The bullets will work fine in both guns.

However, the Velociter ammunition is high velocity ammo and the semi-auto pistols tend to be a bit fussy. Some work best with std vel ammo, and others require the high vel ammo.

It has been awhile since I worked with pressure guns with 22 ammo (about 62 years ago), but I seem to recall that peak pressure in both flavours was about the same. But that was with CIL ammo. Pressure would depend if the same powder was used for both types or if a slower powder was used for the high vel. Slow powder might mean a lower peak pressure for the Hi Vel, but more area under the curve.
