what velocity do you reach from a 20 inches barrel 308 rem 700 heavy barrel and still be accurate with 150 or 165 gr bullet? please give me the powder and # grain.thank you

well I push a 175gr bullet out of a 1/12 twist 20" barrel at 2659avg using IMR 4895 44.3 grs ,210M primers and winchester brass, mag length

works good out to 1000meters the only bullet in your weight I would use is the 154 Lapua

i will use it for hunting deer but maybe a trip back to dcra match so maybe up to 300 too 1000y by the way i have a 20 moa picatinny rail.

I am shooting 175 Berger VLD's at 2740 FPS with 45.7 gr of powder. Works well. I also have a load for a 168 gr berger vld that was at 2800 fps using 46.2 gr of varget. Both good put prefer the 175 gr load.

The heavier the bullet you shoot, the lighter the powder charge you'll use, and the less velocity you'll give up in a short tube. Lets say you make 2700 fps with a 150 SMK, at that velocity the bullet remains supersonic out to about 800 yards. But if you can get 2400 fps out of a 220 gr SMK, it will remain supersonic out to about 1240 yards. at sea level.

I shortened up a Rem Varmint .308 to 19.5 inches and it shot good out to 600 meters running 175gr SMK with 46gr. Varget but that was its limit. Moving back to 800 meters and the rifle had a hard time finding the end of the range.

thank you. i ll be shooting factory winschester ammo this winter so i ll have fireform cases. next step reloding.
